I had botox injections 5 weeks ago for chronic migraine. The neck spasms started ~5 days after and were pretty awful for about 2 weeks. Much better over the past week. The muscle relaxers prescribed by my dr caused hallucinations and sleeplessness. Ice on my neck helped. The spasms triggered more migraines. Right now, I wouldn't do this again but, if the migraines get much better now that the spasms have relented--I don't know. I'm curious to see if anyone tried a second time. Same outcome or different?
Hi I too have chronic migraines, and have done two rounds of Botox. The Botox have not worked at all, but I must admit the Cyclobenzaprine 10mg 3 times a day helped with my neck discomfort. If your medication is causing you problems as you mentioned, maybe you need to talk with your Dr about trying a new one, if you haven't already. Plus I really don't blame you not wanting another round of the Botox, my second lot caused my headaches to be worse.
Take care hope this helped a little, Liz.
Hi jankr, I get botox injections for migraines, and yes, they put me out for about three days before I can START to function again. The neck spasms are awful. But, the migraines are worse, at least for me they are. Some people are willing to do it again, (I'm going for the fifth time tomorrow), and some people aren't. I guess it just depends on how bad the spasms are for each individual person.
I've been getting Botox injections for the past 2.5 years and have had great relief with my mygraines. I have never had any side effects. I wonder about the doctor giving them to you. My doctor never has those kinds of reactions. He's been doing them for more than 10 years and has just had a bit of neck stiffness for a few days in several of his patients.
If you've had no significant relief by now, then you definately need the doctor to increase the dose. I had no relief with 100 units. Now I'm getting 225 units and could get a higher dose. And additional doses can improve your migraines. So if you get some relief, it should be better next time. Wish you luck.
