I have been taking Effexor XR 37.5 mgs (generic) for just a month. The Effexor really does help me. I had one lite beer w/food & I felt fairly drunk. I have had 2 drinks while on Zolot, Paxil, Celexa, & Prozac & never had a problem. I have tried Wellbutrin but never had any alcohol because I was scared of the seizure risk. Also, on the Wellbutrin bottle label it says to avoid alcohol. The Effexor bottle label says to use caution w/alcohol. Thanks.
Wannabe; I like Wildcat, Answer I think you know I'm on Effexor for many years. I believe part of the heavy hit from one beer is you really have not even reached it's blood level yet and your body it working at adjusting to it. If It were I you know how it affected you this time but give it a month or so and If you would like to try a small amount of alcohol again you would pro Boley do better. But myself I just stopped drinking years ago. Because really a Depressant (alcohol) and an Anti-depressant (Effexor) really don't mix well. But everyone reacts differently. But if you do enjoy a beer from time to time and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that always keep your medications in mind. And maybe see how a half a beer well mix and if it reacts like this last time after a month you would be better off now without.
By the way, I'm such a wimp I would bet that from my last experience a few swallows gives me a buzz and not always a good one. Have a great day. Chuck1957
