I am on day 7 of Celexa for anxiety and I feel like a walking zombie. I just want to see if anyone else felt the same and how long before I feel normal again?
On day seven with any SSRI, things will be a little strange. Your body/brain has not adapted and just about anything can be going on. Please give this medication at least 2 weeks before looking for really symptom change and 6-8 weeks before you can tell if it is going to work for you.
If you are feeling really miserable, contact your doctor with your issues and let him deal with them. You can look up the side effects on this site.
Celexa is an anti-depressant. If your anxiety is a chronic problem your doctor may have decided to deal with it in this manner rather than a short acting anti-anxiety drug like Ativan. This is not that unusual. If you not 'feeling' it after 6-8 weeks, be sure to discuss it with your doctor during your follow-up exam.
Keep us posted.
I am currently on 20mg of it and I have to say that it has worked well for me. I used to be on Lexapro, but it seemed to stop working after 5 years so my doctor switched me to Celexa. One time they upped my dosage to 40mg and I did feel like a zombie and quickly switched back to the lower dose. There are other antidepressants out there, so if this is not working for you or making you too tired, please don't hesitate to discuss it with the prescribing physician and maybe they can find you a better fit. Best of Luck!
