Has anyone had the mirena and not had a child yet. I've heard you're not supposed to get it if you have not had a child yet, I'm worried to get it and not be able to have children later on. I've not had any kids yet and my doctor suggested mirena as an option. I'm just worried
We are seeing more and more girls get it without having children. To the point that I'm wondering if that's just a caution from the drug company to protect them. On the web site it doesn't mention a word about it unless you go to the professional info, then it says its not recommended if you haven't had a child. That could be more a case of the ease of insertion. Things are a little stretched out after a baby. It doesn't mention a word that it is harmful if you didn't have a child.
The reason IUDs are usually suggested for women who have already had a child is because it's easier to insert into the uterus of women who have been pregnant because their cervix is softer. I had my IUD inserted just over two years ago now, I'm 22 with no children and I've never been pregnant. Before having it inserted my doctor gave me a prescription for a medicine that helps soften the cervix making insertion easier. It still hurt, a lot. But after the first day my pain lessened significantly and after two days it was mostly gone. Getting an IUD is one of the best decisions I've ever made, I've recommended it to friends who also got one and really like it. But only you and your doctor can know whether it's the right choice for you.
