My prescription plan does not cover belviq. I am midway through the15 day free trial and feel it is a wonder drug. I am unable to pay out of pocket, even with the discount. Has anyone been successful with an appeal for coverage?
Yes, twice I won when I went through fighting it with the insurance company. I don't know if you will have any luck and would be interested if you do, because I will soon be facing the same problem. I went through the insurance company's appeal process, then sending it to my State's Insurance Commission. One was for a procedure that has been covered 3 times before. I found out later that the University had entered the wrong code. Then I fought for them to cover my Botox injections which they weren't going to cover for anyone. Again it made it to the State Commission. I had a LOT of research, manufacturer info, (much of it provided by the doctor). So it's not an easy process, but I would ask your doctor for any accompanying documentation that might be helpful. If you win with the insurance company, it won't take long. But if you have to go through your State, it will take a lot longer. It took only months for the first appeal and it took a full year on the second one. But at $41,000 a year, it was worth it. I sincerely wish you the best.
