I'm a 35 yr old man whose a union concrete finisher and currently on a wound vac w/ home nursing!! I have tremendous pain and may have to undergo a flap surgery! The doctors explained what it is to me and I'm kind of skeptical about the whole thing! Can anyone give me some advice as to I'm extremely confused! Please help me gain some nerve! Also doctors gave me tramadol ,, any feedback on this med will help as well! I was taking Vicodin but I got switched! I'm sure it's cause doctors now a days think everyone's a drug addict!! What a world we live in!!!
You are right about your medication, doctors are indeed afraid of prescribing anything stronger than something akin to Tramadol, which is (in this gurlz opinion) not very effective for treating acute pain, nor chronic pain either.
The squeaky wheel gets the grease... so start squeaking to your doctor.
(OK, 'men' don't squeak, but you get the idea)
I do know a bit about pain meds, and you sound like you are incredibly under-treated! You could call your doctor, or better yet, have your nurse call your doctor to report that your pain level is very high and Tramadol is not getting the job done. There are so many pain medications that would do a better job than wimpy tramadol (just my opinion). In the meantime, try your tramadol with some Ibuprofen, it may help a bit better with Ibu added into the mix.
Some people have great success with Tramadol, but you are not.
Best wishes and hope you don't need to have surgery,
p.s. there are a few nurses on this site that are incredibly bright, hope at least one of them sees your question and gives you an answer about your surgery.
