I get them often and I am not a fan of medication. I have tried turning the lights off and being in total silence with a cold rag on my face. I have tried tea bags on my eyes and pressure points but none of those seem to work. If anyone has any advice I can really use it.
My neurologist and I agree on taking 500 mg of magnesium daily, but I really get relief when I go up to 750 mg. But at the higher dose he is worried about it being to much for my kidneys since I'm on a lot of prescription meds to stay alive. I also take CoQ10, and vitamin B2 twice daily, plus a multi vitamin. It has also helped to drink something that keeps your electrlyts balanced, I drink Gatorade. Most people prefer an ice pack on their neck and forehead, but for me heat works better. I have heating pads in 3 rooms of my house to get the tension out of my neck, plus do a specialized massage from a massage therapist who has training in this area on my upper portion of my body that gets the muscles to release. I've had migraines now for 40 years, inherited from my mother, it runs in the family. You can also try feverfew but that didn't work for me. I use to get them occassionally until I got an autoimmune disease, now they are daily. But everthing I listed has taken the pain level way down for me.
I have seen a neurologist fir my migraines but all the meds he prescribe would give me side effects. For me I find that as soon as I either get an aura or feel a migraine come on I take one advil 200mg and one tylenol 500mg and take and ice pack and put it on my neck with a face cloth in between. It works the best for me.
