2 days ago I finally reached breaking point and tried to end my life, I am finally getting the help I need now and today started on Sertraline.. I have been told to take 1 tablet (50mg) every morning. Just wondered how long it may be before I feel like it is starting to work, I am aware that it will be gradual and not straight away, just my mood is so low that the thought of it taking ages is unbearable. Thanks in advance!
Going to have to be patient as we are all different. Antidepressants don't work real fast. Just stick it out and it will be worth it. You may have mild side effects in the beginning like headache and diarrhea, but it will subside. Don't be surprised if the dosage needs adjusted in the future, too. If you become suicidal again, reach out for help. It is no place to be alone.
Hang in there silva ! As previously mentioned, it will take some time to build up in your system. I would say you should start to feel better in 2 weeks or so. You will probably have some bad side- effects at first. Most of these will subside in a few weeks. If by week 4 you are still not feeling very good, see if you can go up to 75mgs. Try that for a couple more weeks. If you need to you can go up to 100mgs. If that still isn't enough, you can go up to 150mgs. Just be patient and work with your doctor on your dosage. You have to get thru some bad days before you start to feel better. It is worth it ! Worst case scenario, and the Sertraline doesn't work for you -- you can always try another med. Best of Luck ! Try to think positive. You are not alone !
