Low fat diet is correct. Please read this short description of the process I found in wikipedia. This is as I recall learning how this process works. Read more elsewhere on the web.
"Bile acids are steroid acids found predominantly in the bile of mammals. Bile salts are bile acids compounded with a cation, usually sodium. In humans, the salts of taurocholic acid and glycocholic acid (derivatives of cholic acid) represent approximately eighty percent of all bile salts. Bile acids, glycine and taurine conjugates, and 7-alpha-dehydroxylated derivatives (deoxycholic acid and lithocholic acid) are all found in human intestinal bile. An increase in bile flow is exhibited with an increased secretion of bile acids. The main function of bile acid is to facilitate the formation of micelles, which promotes processing of dietary fat."
Simply put. Bile is from the gallbladder. Obstruction of bile results in the inability to process fats. However, if the body says there is a lot of fat to metabolize, it produces more bile salt and bile acids to get them into the intestine. Acids of any type in excess cause problems in the GI tract. So, yes, low fat diet will prevent or reduce gall bladder attacks. When the system is not working properly, the salts are not flushed out and gall stones are eventually formed. A sign of bile blockage is stools that are very pale or clay colored. See a doctor immediately if this occurs.
If you are bending over in pain from this, I would opt to have them taken out. They actually take the whole gallbaldder usually because you usually continue to make stones. Depends on age & other factors. The now do it laproscopically so it isn't a bad surgery to have at all. Same day surgery usually unless there ae complications or something else to do with your health...
