I know it sounds corny, but "life does get so much better!" BelievE me, I hated life, my mom passed away,I despised my job, my husband got on my nerves, even the things that I normally loved to do were torture. I couldn't bring myself to even bathe! See your doctor he will help you.please see him immediately! It's amazing how a couple little pills can help you! and pleasE keep in touch?
My heart breaks for you Theresa!
I felt exactly like you do right now, but it was a long time ago. Once the right med is found, you'll begin feeling better, things won't be so negative, you'll be your old self again and see life as fun and interesting.
If you could list ALL of the meds you've tried for your depression (I know about Lexapro and Paxil) we may be able to help you. I responded to an old tricyclic, which are still around because they work! Mine was called Pamelor or Tofranil. Both of those worked, actually. Most doctors seem to want to prescribe the newer antidepressants of late, I think they do it for two reasons, less side effects (supposedly) and perhaps they are getting kick backs for all the new ones they prescribe - which is pretty negative thinking on my part! Kind of funny, really.
If you don't feel better in a few weeks, why not call your doc and ask for a Benzodiazepine for just a week or two, and ask for a different antidepressant.
This has been going on too long for you. My heart goes out to you, Theresa!
Depression can be really sad. Until you find meds to work try to make yourself a routine. Get up, get some breakfast even small amounts is better then nothing. Get washed and dressed. Very important. Also do not sleep more than 8 hours or you will feel more tired and have trouble sleeping at night. Go take a walk with your dog if you have one. It will give you some fresh air and sun. Go back and try to do something you like. Nothing that takes too much concentration because you may have trouble remembering. Do stuff you like. Funny but all I could do was color when I was in the hospital for 6 months before they found a med to help me. Don't drink too much caffeine or you will feel anxiety. Have water available because antidepressants make you a little dry. Add lemon or lime in it. Taste good! Make sure you even have a little snack twice a day and don't forget lunch. Make a sandwich if you are lazy. Don't forget dinner too.
Call a good friend for a cold drink even if you have nothing to say, she will. They should know that you are not feeling like yourself so you don't have to fake how you feel.
Watch a comedy movie at night and get to bed at a reasonable time to keep your schedule. And Repeat daily. Also if you don't feel like you are feeling any better let the docs know, that is important. Write a log of the meds you try and the side effects. When your docs wants you to try a new one, check your list to make sure you didn't try it yet. And show them the list it really helps to treat you properly.
Good luck and take care,
