Has anyone been experiencing trouble in getting Tegretol 200 mg refilled?
Added 3 Mar 2012:
It took a search of more than 25 local pharmacies to find 3 weeks worth. This is ridiculous. I just want my Neuro. to know that I am thankful for their help.

I have looked at FDA and done other searches on this backorder issue. Have found nothing.

Perhaps it is the insurance company eliminating the Brand Name Only option.
I dont fill tegretol but there are a number of drugs on backorder right now. One of mine, I have had to drive all over to get it filled for the past four months. Some of the hospitals are having a great difficulty getting injectables too. There are variuos reasons for this. Some of it is just production back up at the plants, some is difficulty getting ingredients to make the drugs etc. there is an article regarding this on the FDA website if you want to check and see if Tegretol is one of the ones on backorder. For some of them it gives dates of when they will be available again.
I have been taking Tegretol for at least 30 years. Now all of a sudden pharmacies are having trouble getting it. Their reason is that they are having trouble with the company that makes Tegretol.
My problem started about two months ago when Caremark a mail order service used by my medical insurance could not get it. It was my responsibility to find a pharmacy that had it. So the search began... first I went to Walmart, they provided two weeks worth of Tegretol, now they don't have it. When I say "it" I mean the original not generic. I can't take generic.
So my search continues for a pharmacy that has the original. When I ask why they can only say that they have generic. I think you are correct when you said it is the insurances that don't want to pay for original... so where does that leave people like me who can't use generic???
Inwood Labs, USL Pharma, Warner Chilcott, Pliva, Actavis Elizabeth, Jubilant Cadista have all discontinued production of the tablet form of Carbamazepine (Tegretol). Apotex Inc (200 mg) and Torrent Pharms (100, 200, 300, & 400 mg) are the only one that make the generic. The generic Tegretol Extended Release capsule by NOSTRUM, and APOTEX INC, and the tablet form by TARO are currently being manufactured. Novartis is still making the Tegretol 200 mg tablet and Tegretol-XR 100, 200, & 400 mg.
I would recommend that you try and get your doctor to switch you to the XR form. Everyone that I know that has switched to the XR format has been happy with the change so far. Hope this helps.
I have also been taking Tegretol (brand name) 200mg for the past 25 years and haven't been able to get it the past 2 months. I switched to Tegretol XR since the generic carbamozapine does not work for me (I have seizures while taking it). I also have Crohn's disease and I am experiencing tolerability issues with the Tegretol XR (causing problems with my Crohn's), so I sit and wait until Novartis gets their act together and start making the drug again or finds new manufacturers. My only other option is to order from Canada and have to pay full price. I contacted Novartis and they said it would be available mid April, but it now almost mid May and no Tegretol in sight.
My daughter has been on tegretol to control her seizures, which it has done, since the age of 2. She is now 19. The last couple of months, the pharmacy can't get tegretol and she's on the generic. The pharmacy called around and no one has it. I still can't get it. No one seems to have an answer. So -I'm thinking - it's an old drug, and they are not making a profit anymore, and/or, the stupid Obamacare has hit in, and they are stop making drugs to be more profitable. That's scary. I don't like generic. School said she was dizzy for a few days. I
