I have been experiencing these foul odors for the past 4 months since going off of fluoxetine 40 mg/day. My specialist says that it is from a reduction of GABA on my brain... any thoughts?
Hi lindamc, I've gone cold turkey off of fluoxetine a couple of times and I've not had this experience. Yet, I've a keen sense of smell, usually. But as the other person that answered you, a sinus infection can certainly mess with your sense of smell. You might want to ask your doctor to examine your sinus cavities.
I'm not so sure about the gaba center of the brain, but if your doc said it was from the gaba center then it most likely is the cause of your overly active sense of smell.
Best wishes to you and I hope this problem is resolved soon.
