Such as diet (meaning targeted foods for hypothyroidism) and supplements, for adults?

Hi Rita,
I also have hypothyroidism and you should talk to your doc about meds that will help, I did not want to go on prescription meds for mine and since it was only a few points low it was no big deal and my doc said that's fine.I was always tired that was my biggest problem with my hptd but I have found this to help so much and if you decide to try this ask your doc first but it helped me and maybe you also. The site below is where I found info, Best of luck

I'm a RN and a lot of our patients who have hypothyroidism ask this same question, and if it is just points low and your doctor says its ok then yes herbs and vitamins will help, but talk with your doctor first like kelly said and I just went to the website above, it was really helpful.
Great answer! Thanking you for your service as a nurse!
Thank You Kelly,
I will check out the site you recommended. It seems that I'm going to need another Dr. My Dr. has provided no answers, no direction, no referral, no benefit. I have to work, functioning is difficult, I can't lie down all day. I appreciate the information you provided and I will follow through with it.
Hello. Before you try anything other than the med your doctor prescribed, it is very important that you check with him. Hypothyroidism left untreated is deadly. There is no natural way because these are hormones only produced in the body. Depending upon the reason you are having this condition, such as cancer, nodules, goiter, dry skin and dry hair and fatigue, thyroidectomy, partial, etc., what your lab reports for TSH depends on if you have any leeway at all.
Thyroid medication is not like a vitamin or deficiency in diet. Please be very careful. The results of not treating really are a trip to the hospital.
Thank You endlessPred,
The first thing I need to do is find a Dr. that's able to help me and not minimize my concerns/symptoms. I appreciate your advice and your caution. I will be very careful.
Good. Let me know how This goes for you. Careful management of your medication becomes a really simple process and you will do fine.
Hope there is an Endo doctor around for you, or internal medicine doctor. good luck and stay in touch. Karen

Dear KM. Happy birthday again and I agree so with this. I have clients in the salon, who try to try the natural stuff first. There is no comparison as to how actual thyroid medicine helps hair, skin, nails, scalp, skin, and general feelings of well being. They have terribly dry hair usually, it seems burned when it grows out of the scalp, it starts thinking, and getting scraggly, it breaks easy, with no chemicals on it or anything. Ladies nails peel and break, skin gets overly dry and they are always high strung and nervouse, this is one of the conditons. The other major thryoid condition, makes people gain weight too easily, they have greasy and itchy scalps and their hair is weak too. They usually are always tired. The natural stuff seems to do little to ease it either way.

Those of my clients and friends no have thyroid conditions and take the BRAND name thryoid medicines and have their thyroids checked every 3 months, seem to have little problem with any of the aforementioned symptoms, and have better quality hair and more of it and normal scalp, not oily or dry. One client I had, went to a naturopath, they told her her thyroid was off, her hair was already coarse and dry, but it thinned, and looked burned as it grew in but not as bad as some of the thryoid clients I have. Finally, she noticed some fast aging in her face, I begged her to see a dr. She did, and she did NOT even have a thyroid conditon, she had menopause and of course it had caused most of its symptoms with her while she was taking the herbal supplements. Luckily, it was caught by a dr and they had her stop taking the herbs for a month, then checked thyroid and female hormones, and the thyroid was NOT diseased in anyway, it was her hormones, and they started her on them. She was way too young for the damage she felt and had, and the hormones. But both can come hand in hand too, so if the thyroid is off, the other hormones can be off too. I completely agree with ya, KM, this is not a conditon to treat with herbs and supplements, diet may help, but not enough to offset the symptoms from thryoid disease. Patti
Thank You Patti,
I'm learning more as time goes on. I first need to find a new Dr. who will listen to me and take my concerns seriously and listen to me regarding the symptoms I am experiencing. I appreciate your advice and recommendations and I will comply.
