I've been on the Duragesic 100 patch for over 18 years without problems. However now when I put on a new patch I'm not getting any medicine & am experiencing terrible withdrawal symptoms & severe breakthrough pain. I'm just wanting to know if anyone has been on Duragesic for as long as I have & if so how many years has it worked for you? Also if anyone recently experienced my same problems with the Duragesic 100 can you let me know? Please explain if possible. Thanks.
I was on it for (only) 4 1/2 years, 3 x 100. Sounds as though you may have a bad batch that is not delivering properly, especially since you report withdrawal symptoms. I had that happen more than once. Report this to you Dr right away, there may be a problem with this lot. If you continue to not get the drug into your system you'll continue to feel sick. Hope this helps.
I agree, there is just something else I'd do, asap. Take the unopened ones back to the pharmacy and tell them. Ask if you can have ones from a different lot. I have had that with other patches and they exchanged them, however I don't know with a narcotic. One would think if the packs are unopened it would be ok.
Is it the brand name duragesic, or the generic?
Yes I have been on Duragesic/Fentanyl 100mcg/hr for about 15 yrs I am currently on the max dose of 300 mcg/hr and have been for 8 yrs the ONLY time I felt I was having DT's was when I was forced to switch to a generic MYlan. It took a few weeks but it did happen. There are some Generics of Fentanyl 100 that have worked Sandoz which are made by the makers of Duragesic they just get sent down a different label line, Watson Brand works well and my chart clearly states these are the only brands I am to be prescribed. You MUST discuss this with your treating Dr and if your in a large Pain CTR the higher up the Dr food chain you go the better results you will have. I prefer name brand but they cost 10,000 for 45 a month but my ins gives them 5000$ as they have an agreement. Also I have been told this newer generic Mallencrodt or something like this works but are noisy?? I only used them for 3 days as the Dr didnt look at my chart to be detailed on what brand I can use.
The Pharmacy knew this but they choose to widen their profit margin they told me because they could with how script was written. I dont make this maitake anymore. Go with the brands that have worked well in the past as they all have a slightly different delivery system with their matrix. I always prefered the gel type which is why I think Watson work good???
Good luck my friend in pain
