I'm looking for more information/experience in dealing with an ascending aortic aneurysm diagnosis. Thank you
Yes, I was diagnosed with an ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm in June of 1995 when I was 24 years old. It was very lucky that it was finally properly diagnosed -I had been having increasingly more severe pain in my upper left shoulder/back for about 5 years by then, been to the E.R. at 5 different hospitals over 100 times, and told in no uncertain terms that I was a hypochondriac, it was all in my head, I was attention seeking, a drama queen, etc. etc- because when they found it at UC Davis Medical Center by doing a CT with contrast, it was over 10 inches long and dilated to 8.2 Centimeters, the largest they had ever seen at the time, and dissecting. I had immediate graft repair of my Aorta, and in 1995, it was an experimental procedure not being performed in the U.S. and not FDA approved, so it was the hospital that moved heaven and earth, got European doctors to travel to the U.S. who performed and demonstrated the repair to the Vascular surgeons at UC Davis Medical Center. My thoracic aneurysm was repaired on June 12, 1995. I had to have a second repair on another aneurysm -a Supra Renal Aortic aneurysm- on July 13, 1998. I do not have any family history of aneurysms of any kind, have no disease or condition that causes them, and am blessed to be able to say my grafts are now 21 and 18 years old, respectively, with no further intervention, no problems whatsoever with the grafts, and I have 3 healthy children that were born AFTER the grafts, by C-section, that are perfectly normal. I no longer take any medications, although I am disabled and tire easily, and am now 45 years old. Just so you know, I just recently discovered what is believed to have caused the aneurysms: Levaquin, which I had taken several times for infections from age 15-16. I hired a law firm just this month(December 2016) and there is already a settlement in the works with the company that manufactures Levaquin.
