Where is the pain? You might try a over-the-counter pain patch. If it is pain like in the leg, knee, arm or anything like that try tiger balm, it comes in extra strength and regular strength. It kind of smells but does the trick. If it is back pain you just might try some yoga, just take it easy. I selected yoga as the soothing music along with very light streching. Just make sure your instructor knows about your pain and they can direct you in the right type of streching. Try an evening with a bubble bath, soft music and candles. Men like this treatment too.
When your husband goes to bed at night try some "sleepytime tea" this should help him sleep and rest is a key to getting better.
It would help if you said what the cause of the pain is. Lots of people are having luck with lyrica. It's for pain that is nerve-related mostly. Some people say it's a life-saver and others hate it just like any other medication.
There are NSAIDs like celebrex, naproxen, ibuprofen ... then aleve, advil, etc ... prescription drugs and over the counter in smaller strengths. Some people require steroids like prednisone.
You should tell us what his problem is and then it would be easier to suggest something. Hope that helps.
