does anyone know of any techniques to help my anxiety or panic attacks better. Besides taking medication. I wake up so stressed sometimes it ruins the whole day. Just wondering if anyone had any helpful suggestions?
Wheni wake up in the morning, I'll turn on the tv and as I'm getting ready for work I'm watching my favorite show. I also listen to music. If I'm really stressed out after work, I'll take a couple of deep breaths and I'll write in my journal. I got the idea from my daughter and my therapist. Just writing down how you're feeling actually helps and you'll be surprised at how much better you feel.
Hi there littlebeaver. Well, what I use is a handgrip. The type you use to exercise your hand muscles for. I take it with in the jeep. While in traffic, when I become anxious, squeeze the handgrip. Its great exercise and It really cuts down on my anxiety levels. Have been using this technique for years. Use it around the house and so on. I as you, also suffer from anxiety. Not the major panic attacks that I used to have, but a steady dose of feeling anxious. Well, the best to you my friend.
I suffered with panic attack when I was in my teens (and anxiety) the one thing that I did that helped me was I found a good therapist (psychiatrist under the same roof) he prescribed low doses of Xanax, when they first started I was placed on Librium by the family doctor, but I got more out of going and learning how to utilize tools that helped make things much easier, I utilized the medication but not used it in a large dose, the panic attacks were so severe that it was like I thought that they were not going to end, I did each day things that were different, I read, I journaled, I took walks, it bothered me and made me stressed to be out and around people but I found the mre that I did (with the doctor helping me set goals) that thngs did get better. It may be for a time that you may need to do both low dose of medication and therapy in combination.
It is my sincere hope that you find a doctor that you feel comfortable with and that you develop the tools and improve each day, exercise helps it's not an easy thing especially when you are suffering with panic, I walked close to home and then as I improved I walked farther, music helped, it's doing different things that I think makes a difference. I can relate to waking up stressed and with that horrible feling of panic,i get that most mornings and it can ruin the day,but i find reading,or yes as the others gave great advice with writing your feelings down,keeping a journal on your thoughts-what is stressing you out,or how you are feeling,it helps to get it all out on paper. You should find a good therapist and you can show them what you've written (if your comfortable with doing so) and that gives them and you an idea where you are with your anxiety levels and they can give you "tools"that you can train your mind away from the panic and into calmer thoughts..
I suffer from anxiety daily and understand how rotten it can make your days,if you can exercise or just take a walk to clear your head,i've found that helps sometimes too.
