Im wondering what would be a better way to go, I can either go into the hospital where you stay 5 days and they put you on subs, or I can go into a detox center where they just give you subs for a few days and when you leave you are opiate free... no subs
Is the difference between the hospital and detox center is that at the center you can come and go as you please, but the hospital you can't til your 5 days are up? Sorry for being naive. The hospital can monitor your WD and adjust your dosages. Also doesn't it take more than 5 days to detox from opiates. I had an addiction to Vicodin for 3 years and the doctor put me on Subutex then 4-8mg Suboxone and said I'd be on that for at least 6 months, so my body/brain could repair the damages I had done. I'm not sure. there are better people who post here that can give you a really good answer, so wait if you can and do the whole WD thing right.
Hi terry, I guess it would depend on how long you've been addicted and if you can trust yourself not to use again once your out of wd's. I would prefer the hospital setting. As Cathleen mentioned, depending on the damage done, the subs will buy you time while the receptor sites heal and you start producing your own natural opiate. The subs will help with this. If you choose this route, be sure to take the least amount of subs that control the symptoms. Higher doses are much more difficult to ween down from and eventually off. Explore both avenues thoroughly. Again, much depends on how long you've been addicted too!
