I have been diagnosed with Aspergers (high functioning autism), depression, and an anxiety disorder... I also suffer from severe debilitating migraines and insomnia. I have discovered that Xanax seems to help with all these issues, but I am concerned about the long term side effects of Xanax. I've tried other benzodiazepines but Xanax works much better than any of the others. I am currently prescribed Trazadone and occasionally I am prescribed adderall or Ritalin, but I have stopped taking those due to some undesirable side effects. They helped with my depression and social anxiety for a long time before they stopped working. I don't want to be addicted to Xanax, but I can't live with the social anxiety, chronic migraines, and insomnia. While on Xanax (about 2mg) I am outgoing, I'm not tense, no migraines, and I can go to sleep whenever I want to without laying in bed all night. I have also been prescribed SEVERAL SSRIs and none seem to work. Should I consider trying to find a Dr who will prescribe me Xanax, or are there other less risky medications that would have a similar effects? I'm not a drug seeker, I genuinely want help. I've heard that Xanax withdrawal is one of the worst withdrawals a person can go through and that it can actually kill you! I just really don't know what to do. So far, Xanax is the only thing that has helped me. Does the benefit outweigh the risk?
Hello Danyalson. Benzodiazepines such as Xanax do work wonders. The longer taking the drug, the longer the dependence grows and the more difficult it is when the time arrives to stop taking the drug. Does the benefit outweigh the risk? That depends on the individual. Your internal biological clock. (tolerance etc) Regards pledge
