I was diagnosed with anxiety as a child and every year it gets worse. The past 2 years have been the worst by far. This past month I haven't been able to leave the house and once I have left I have anxiety about returning back home. It has affected my sleep to the point I haven't slept much for weeks. I have taken medication and gone to a therapist but nothing seems to help.
You need to go back to your Dr. and let him/her know what is going on in order to find a solution. Ask about trazodone.
Trazodone is used in the treatment of insomnia; anxiety; sedation; fibromyalgia; depression (and more), and belongs to the drug class phenylpiperazine antidepressants.
Valerie don't take advice from folks about meds, what works for one person doesn't mean it will work for you. I was diagnosed with mild depression with anxiety while my wife was terminal from breast cancer and I first thought I was having cardiac problems. (Being a healthcare professional for 25 year's, we tend to self diagnose). Anyways after multiple antidepressants and anxiety meds, FINALLY xanax 1mg is my "miracle med." I are most fortunate as I have one of the best psych docs in the area! Now with mild seasonal depression, my anxiety is in full control and I function normal. So, xanax has worked for me 11 years now! I wish you the very best and in short, find a good reputable psychiatrist! No MD, for they're familiar with the basics and not a specialist as a psych practitioner.
My MD even admitted he's not that familiar with the psych meds and/or therapies involved. (He's practiced medicine as a GP-Nephrologist for 30+ years).
Good luck and God bless you!
(Unless they've been there... No one knows what it's like to go days without eating, sleeping or functioning normal for the knot in your stomach, rapidly beating heart and sweats associated with anxiety)!
18 is a age where you can just about manage anxiety , the Ativan will make you feel cool . a you think thats the way you should feel but its a drug . I didn't take anxiety meds at 18 I had a drink instead like all 18 year olds do. in fact I didn't take any meds the docs wanted me to, now I take 6mg of Ativan a day and 10 mg Lexapro . If you can get away without meds at your age you can pull through , don't you go out with friends at the weekend like in ENGLAND music bars and clubs or rock gigs. that give you something to look forward to and cut loose with a few beers like a normal teen . it just the week that's rough then . I lived my life like, that even singing in a band when young my weight through anxiety was about 130 lb or 9 stone has we say.
Hi, you almost sound like me. This is just my opinion, I got so bad I could not even go out my door. I was put on zoloft and within a month I was feeling so much better. I suffered through the side affects and and I am so glad I did. Today I drive, got my ged, and went to college. I sure hope this helps. Brett Court
What form of anxiety were you Dx'd with? you sound like myself, I've left carts in the grocery store, ran out of meetings at work (and I work in mental health!) fled social situations, just don't feel comfortable. I hope I can help as you are very young for all this. I've been in DBT for about 4 months and I thought it wouldn't help but looking back now it has little by little. I think you need an antidepressant and I have seen and or experienced great results from Remeron, Lexapro, Zoloft, Paxil, Elavil, Doxepin and add ons like Abilify and Latuda (my favorite along with Remeron) also Klonopin is better for anticipatory anxiety and don't be afraid of using benzo's if you need them because improving your quality of life is what matters. Please let me know if I can help
Girl you sound like I do. But mine has gotten so bad that I have developed what the neurologist calls stress related episodes or seizures. I have them so bad that I have to go to the hospital to try to get them to stop. I am on kolonipin and atarax and lexapro and also rispridal to try to manage it. I feel you pain and anxiety. I'm so nervous all the time that I could cry.
