I was diagnosed with high anxiety and panic attacks. Im currently taking Celexa and before that I was taking Trazodone. Trazodone I felt great taking but I put on about 20 lbs in 3 mnths. Current Ive been on Celexa for 1 1/2 mnths and I just dont feel like its helping. What does everyone suggest that is a good prescription but doesnt pack the weight on
Hello rhnhsh. I believe that you might ask your doctor about Lexapro. Its not known as a weight gain drug. Regards pledge
Hello, Let your doctor know that the celexa isn't working. There are many antidepressants that help with anxiety and keep the weight off like pledge suggested the lexapro. Has your doctor considered having you try both celexa and trazodone together? The combination may help with your weight gain. I have been on trazodone and celexa for many yrs and never had an issue with weight gain. I hope you find relief soon ... pamee
Im new to this site so thank you so much for the advise. I thought I was crazy when I felt like I was gaining with the the Trazodone until I got on the scale. Im going to call my doctor and make a appt.
Hi rhnhsh, Don't be too afraid of the old tricyclics, they are old, but they are tried and true. My doctor had me on Pamelor (nortriptyline may be the generic, but I'm not positive) and it worked great. One must be diligent with diet though, because one of the side effects of tricyclics is a craving for sugar and carbs, so you really must keep those out of your home, if you are at all tempted!
Many people prefer the SSRI's, but SNRI (serotonin, norepinephrine reuptake inhibitors) work quite well for some people. We are all so varied, and what works for me may be a side effect ridden pain in the arse for others, but tis a suggestion, and most of the tricyclics really help panic attacks IF your doctor doesn't want you taking any benzodiazapine.
I wish you the best, and remember, you will be a guinea pig for a little while until something works for you.
