... is their something better which is not an SSRI?
Hello. Have you discussed this with your doctor? Have you started the drug? All drugs have side effects listed. it is up to the FDA to report all known side effects. However, no one knows if you will have side effects or not until you take the medication for a time. Many people take this med with nothing troubling them.
At this moment your head is racing a bit thanks to the anxiety. Getting a handle on the anxiety will make it easier for you to evaluate your choices. I suggest you call the physician and discuss this openly. Both fears and objectives. Starting with a medication and then finding out if it helps takes time. When one med is not right you can be switched to another.
And anxiety causes dizziness, so that part won't go away until the meds start working to calm the anxiety. Let me know what the doctor says. There is plenty of support here for people starting and working with medications.
SSRI, by the way, are the leading class of drugs to help with the conditions you are reporting. They treat a chemical imbalance in the brain. If you want, you can be tested for your level by the doctor. Just remember it is for that day and at that time. It says nothing about tomorrow.
There are support drugs for anxiety. Xanax and similar drugs can be used briefly. These drugs are addictive and not for long term use. But can be used while your antidepressant is taking effect. Does this help?
Hello there. I just wanted to say something that may help you a little. Someone said something about the anxiety before taking the medication. I used to be the worlds worse at this. A doctor wold prescribe something for me, and my husband would have to convince me it was ok to try. It was a very real frightening thing for me, no matter how ridiculous it sounds. I've been on it for four years, and I wouldn't change it if I could. I mean, yeah, everyone is different. You hear that all the time on here, and its very true. But you have to give a medication a chance. Especially if you're having anxiety before taking it. I will never forget when I started it. I was severly depressed and my doc. at the time wanted me to tr it and gave me samples. Yes, the first couple of days you feel a little weird, but you'll get that from any antidepressants out there. It made me actually want to get off the couch and go to the store with m husband. So, in my opinion, Yes. It definately works wonders for depression. You need to give it a few days, just like any others. But if it's not the one for you, then there are others. My vote for Pristiq is thumbs up. Take care, and bless you. Ruthie
