... rid of severe depression and aniexty. I feel so hopeless and scared that my life will never get better. I am out of a job and cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel. How can I get better when nothing seems to be working?
i really hope your seeing a psychologist because about 1/2 the people who take meds and dont see one dont have any results. but anyway if you have taken MAOIs and tricyclics then the next step is to add an antipsychotic to the antidepressant (this regulates basicly all the neurotransmiters that depression has been associated with) and/or (probably not "or" because this can cause depression problems) Benzodiazepines. 1- start/keep seeing psychologist. 2- try cognitive behavioral thearpy (highest success rate for many mental illnesses) 3- daily excercise 4- daily meditation 5- write how your feeling in a note book 6- pick up a hobby 7- balance diet (there are some foods which help regulate the body) and with that stay away from sugar and cafene... theres a bunch of other things you can do too but thats all i can think of off the top of my head. i hope some of this helps, iv been right there with you...
believe it or not adding a very low dose of lithium( i am not talking high doses but very low doses off less than 300mg) can add the needed regulation between the neurotransmiters that antidepressants and even benzos lack. Google low dose lithium treatment.I was totally against it and I did weeks of researched and triedit and I never thought I would get out of my depression and anxiety. Remember lithium is a mineral and not a drug and people take as little as 30mg a day and get great results.I can now go days without taking a benzo and i take it just now to detox slowly but adding the lithium has calmed my brain down and i just feel more relaxed and my depression has lifted. many doctors do not know about this low dose therapy and lithium still has the stigma as a bad drug but like i said it is a mineral and people who take mega doses are prone to side effects. In parts of the USA lithium occurs naturally in the water and it very low doses and studies have shown in those parts their is less depression, suicide and even crime. Look into this and do the research. Like I said I was totally against it and now I take 300mg a day but i know you can buy it otc from the tacoma dispenary at $20 for a months supply i think they are 5mg pills and look up DR. WRIGHT from the Tacoma clinic. He is a medical doctor that has done a lot of rearch on this. good luck and keep asking the questions.
I am in the same black hole as you. joining this group has helped in respect that I know I am not alone in this. The steps that pyschmajor offered are very helpful. It is just getting to that place is the hard part. I don't know about you but I sometimes feel that I do not have the energy to do some of those things. I worked out at least 2 hours every day now I do not have the energy to take a walk. I wish you the best of luck and hope that you will find an answer and start seeing that light at the end of the tunnel.
Sorry Flsun. I also suffer severe depresssion, axiety, and PNES. I'm not bragging when I say I have taken most meds out there. There is a new antidepressant(Pristiq). It is a time released antidepressant. My Dr. is weaning me off paxil and onto Prestiq. I took my first dose yesterday and abgout 20 mins later, I wasn't as "balled up" for lack of a better term. Now it may have just been in my head but if you have tried a lot FLs, maybe this can open at least a window if not a door. I also pose a question to you... since you suffer extreme anxiety, has your Dr. put you on a benzo? That would probably help immensly.
