I used to be on prozac for 3 years. My anxiety's been really bad recently and my psychiatrist wants to put me on another antidepressant. But I have been doing a bit of research recently and it seems that antidepressants are dangerous and can harm the brain after a while? Making people aggressive and have strange behavior and do things like crime or something that they maybe wouldn't of done if they never started taking these antidepressants?
I wrestle with this myself. I try to eat no processed food so the meds are a clear concern. I know some folks have bad reactions. I can find no evidence that the meds permanently harm everyone that takes them. And two I took the meds because frankly I had no other choice if I wanted to hold a job and own a home etc.
Some criminal probably used it as an excuse. I've been on an antidepressent since I was 26 yrs old, I'm 66 now. I certainly wouldn't go out and commit a crime. For me the fact of the way I am without it makes me feel I have to risk any problems. I am totally non functional without them. Remember, we have a frontal lobe that tells us crime is wrong and nothing can change that and make you commit a crime if its against your nature to start with.
We can't forget that these are mind-altering chemicals made by man, and they have significant side effects. That said, only you can determine if they help you. What is your life like without them? Are you able to function, go to work, have a good life? Are you suicidal without them, or do you harm yourself? Is your life better for them? I know, it's not an easy decision. Take care - be well. - EJ23
Well I think people usually commit the crimes before they are put on meds usually! I have been on antidepressants since 2007 and am fine! I had a psychoatic episode before with a major depressant so I am normal now! Try to relax and take the one that feels right and working for you. You can't worry about something that will probably never happen to you. Relax!
