Why are anti ulcer drugs prescribed along with NSAIDS?

Because NSAIDS have a nasty habit of causing ulcers over time. So they try to prevent that with the ulcer meds.

All of the NSAIDS have the potential to cause stomach and/or intestinal ulcers and bleeding. The ulcer/anti acid production pills usually lessen the amount of acid produced in the stomach which reduces the erosion of the stomach or esophagus, and reduces the chances of developing ulcers in the first place.
