clonidine and i noticed one of the first things listed in the warning section is that it cause rapid weight gain. please tell me you have any experience with that, does it occur often etc. thank you so much! Ryan Greschler
I do not take clonidine but my son does. He is on a low dose but I can tell you it has not helped him gain any weight. Now it could be because of the adhd meds he is on . He takes the clonidine for sleep because he is to young for a sleeping pill. I would say give it a try and try changing your diet. I don't know what the docs suggest to eat but I do know eating only fatty foods is not good for your body. Even though ur trying to gain weight u still need to have a good diet.you do know that clonidine is a blood pressure pill don't you? I also suggest to be careful driving while taking it til you know if it makes u sleepy or not. Sorry if this wasn't much help this is just what I have noticed with my son on this medication.
Sometimes I've found that anti-anxiety meds or antidepressants don't necessarily cause direct weight gain in that you absorb more calories or fats, BUT they make you feel happier/better/more ok with yourself, so you're less likely to worry about weight gain, therefore you eat more and gain weight. Hope that helps.
I am on clonidine .2 mg 2 x daily for b/p and htn... I have been on it for about a yr and have not gained any weight off of it... we all r different so u can't go by what it does to another as I am sure u well no, but like I said I have lost weight, not do to the clonidine... I just am not a real big eater and was on one med. that did make me put on weight had to go off it not do to weight issues though..it was other reasons I went off of it... as far as u reading the warnings they have to list these things even if only one person had this as a side effect, so I wouldn't stress to much about it..talk to your doc or pharmacist they will answer a lot of your ?'s as well as others on this site...
