A friend has a dog and she told me her vet put her dog on phenobarbital for his seizures. Is phenobarbital an animal medication?
It can be used to treat seizures in dogs, but there are side effects. Consult with the prescriber to see if it's safe for your dog cause every dog reacts to the Rx differently. Your friend's dog might be OK, and yours might not be.
Hi, Adcabrats! About 95% of the medications we use for dogs and cats are human medications at modified dosages.
Phenobarbital is commonly prescribed for seizure disorders in dogs. If your friend's veterinarian, who is aware of the dog's state of health and medical history, prescribed it I wouldn't worry about it's safety and effectiveness.
