i have been on amitriptyline for a month now for insomnia and they are not helpin, i still cant sleep and i am gettin more mood swings, what would you recomend?
Sorry about your sleep issues i have the same problem,im not sure why they put you on amitriptyline to help with sleeping because amitriptyline is a tricyclic antidepressant so if you have tried over the counter meds and they dont work then you can talk to your doc about ambien which i found works great theres also lunesta which leaves a bad taste in your mouth the next day, hope this helps
I would definitely tell your doctor. The amytriptyline can even cause insomnia for some people. If you're just having trouble sleeping, I would ask the doctor to stay away from putting you on any antidepressants. You just need a sedative and nothing else. Ambien, Lunesta, Restoril, and Rozerem are all ones you could get information about. Don't be afraid to to tell your doctor the Amytriptyline isn't working because it is your duty as the patient to advocate for the best healthcare you can get; don't tell him/her you want to try a specific drug unless he/she asks you what you think will work because you don't want him/her to think you're just seeking meds. Do your homework first so that you and he/she can make the best choice for your needs. Hope this helps.
i was on medicaid and getting ambien til they stopped paying for it. it will knock you out but it also caused me to call people and not remember talking to them... and eating without remembering. i'd have evidence on my counters in the mornings. some ppl even drive or have sex and dont remember it while they are on ambien. the dr switched me to elavil. its an antidepressant but it makes me go to sleep. it just makes me feel weird the next day. i dont like talking to anyone. i just wanna be alone!
