No no no. You do not take antibiotics for colds. Colds are caused by viruses not bacteria. This is why we get resistant bacteria, overuse of antibiotics when they aren't appropriate.

I was going to say much the same as above. As kaismama points out colds are caused by viruses which are in absolutely no way affected by antibiotics. If you develop a secondary infection that is caused by bacteria then the use of antibiotics may be beneficial in treating the secondary infection. Your body has to deal with the viral infection on its own. Common areas for secondary infections in colds are your congested sinuses or gooey lungs.
