I've had a GREAT response to this medication with respect to managing pain (some neuropathic, mostly nociceptive), migraines, and sleep. After a serious brain hemorrhage, I was started out at 25mg of Amitriptyline before bed, plus opioids, Fioricet, and a handful of other pills during a month long stay in the hospital.
Now, a little over four years later, I'm off the Fioricet, reduced most of the opioids, eliminated other antidepressants for migraine & sleep. I've done this slowly while increasing Amitriptyline to 100mg at night. Definitely talk to your doctor about it! It's really given me a better, more sober, quality of life, but I know these types of drugs can really work differently for different people.
Good luck! I hope you find something that gives you some relief.
jk791; Yes I agree with both post for one it does not work right away it takes a little time but has proven to be very effective for pain of different types but as Laurie said don't increase the dose until you talk to the doctor. You may give the office a call when they are open good luck hope it just needs to build up for you and try to take it about the same time as directed.
