I have been on Amitriptyline since October 2014, only like 4 months. My doctor has me up to 100mg at bedtime.. Well I've definitely put on the pounds and now I'm 6weeks pregnant.. I would really like to wean myself off, can anyone give me some advice in the leveling I should do when weaning myself?! And where it hasn't been that long, would it effect me dramatically to take myself off? I can't handle all the weight gaining and making me feel worse in top of being pregnant.
You should try to stop it while you are pregnant, however you need to talk to your dr, because while pregnant its not just you who's going to feel it. As far as the weight gain, I gave up blaming the amitriptyline after the first 25 or 30 yrs because I gained and then I lost and then i gained again. All this while on the same dose of it that never changed.
I was on 300mg amitriptyline when I got pregnant with my oldest child. I stopped cold turkey but I wouldnt recommend that! You need to make an appt to see your OB doc and tell him.her about your medication use, also your psychiatrist. They will tell you how to proceed, if you need to taper or just quit taking it. It is important to see and tell both because the OB knows what effects it will have on your baby and your psychiatrist can help by perhaps referring you for other therapies if you have to stop taking the medication. Being pregnant is not emotionally easy and it is likely that you will need some treatment to help you deal with your emotions and keep you in the best mental health possible. Congratulations on your upcoming little one!
