had painful abdominal pain and diarrhea every time I took it. Went back to doctor and got samples of 8 mcg of amitiza twice a day. Started amtiza three days ago but no bowel movement yet. Wondering if I should give myself a fleet saline enema to get things moving. Any advice would be appreciated.
How sad that you never got a response! I'm so sorry!!!
I tried the Amitiza vs Linzess war myself in the last few months. Unlike what you experienced, Amitiza is AMAZING for me, and completely relieves my constipation within 24 hours. I try to keep things moving by taking the Doc-Q-Lace capsules and then an Amitiza about every 4th day because they're only samples. My insurance doesn't cover it, and it makes me want to cry, because it was finally a solution that worked - for me, at least!
Now, we both REALLY had the same result with Linzess. I have tried TWICE now to give it a go, and I don't remember diarrhea, but I would get sick and be in horrible abdominal distress for 2 days - including missing work.
I know there is a difference between a laxative and a stool softener, and what I personally need for long-term maintenance is a stool softener.
I don't know what the answer is, but have you ever seen on TV people talking about coffee enemas? I think I was watching a program on people who were obsessed by something. Apparently, they make people's bowels so normal and the coffee part goes straight into the bloodstream so it's just WHEE. I guess that's one way to wake up! *screeee*
