Mucinex for children will help get rid of mucous. It thins it out. The child has to drink lots of fluids with it. If the child has alot of chest congestion, you can lay him so that his upper body is lower then bottom, on his belly, then pat him on the back, rather vigorously, it will help loosen it up. Cup your hands so that the palm is up and not touching his back when you do it.
