i have cronic pancreatitis due to alcoholism, it has been ongoing for 11 years 22 hospitalizations, all over a week and up to 51 days, i have had to be intubated 6 times . i have been on 200mcgs of fentanyl for 10 years, just recently i changed doc's my new one is prescribing me 90mgs er and 40mgs ir of opana, i almost never run out of my meds but am concerned about abusing the pills. i have never been on suboxone or methadone or one other "one" i can't remember the name for it but am wondering if my condition warrants these steps, oh my psychiatrist also prescribes me 40mgs of valium per day and just started me on 200mgs of luvox cr. WHAT DO I DO? willi1
Dear wlli. With your chronic pancreatitis I would assume you also may have some liver damage due to the alcohol abuse. I would ask your doc to do a blood test to test your liver enzymes. This will tell you more about your liver's ability to handle these strong medications.
Pancreatitis is a very painful condition and I am sure that you have much pain. I would just take what is absolutely necessary to help you with your pain.
The liver blood test will tell you much.
Good luck and may God bless you with your very painful condition. Pup
