After being on a pill taken every 4-6 hours for chronic back pain. My PS has started me on 5mcghour patches to be changed every 7 days. I was wondering what is the quickest I can expect to get relief, and if when applying the patch for the first time is there one application site better than another for the first patch being this is the one we need to work the quickest. Right? And also are there any tips on ways to lessen the irrigation of the adhesive on the patch when applying it to the skin? Thank you, all helping comments are greatly appreciated.
I use a different kind of patch ,but thru yrs of use have learned the following: apply to clean area such as muscle, med is absorbed quicker if patch is on muscle. Shortly after applying patch, a heating pad on low put over patch for just a few minutes will help seal the edges and can help the sticky heat up just enough to help patch stay for recommended time . I have also been given a tip that really works..
Tired of going arm to arm or answering questions from strangers who ask you question? Try placing patch high inside thigh. Sticks very well and not visable. Let me know if I can be of further help. Best Wiahes
Cheley, Really you have some very fantastic Information on really just about any patch that is applied to the skin and more so that falling off is one of the biggest problems. Your advice is well needed they sure don't say much on putting on these patches. I know also it is very important to rotate the patch each time. and when or if they do apply heat to the patch make sure it is only on the edges of the patch. Also I would like to point out that people that do break out a skin rash from these strong medications they have found that when you have the area that you are going to apply the patch is to spray a cortisone spray that you get from the doctor that is prescription but has been a life saver for many that break out and they can't leave it alone due to the itching. And the terrible rash.
Also, remember never apply these patches to broken skin, Or never break or cut the patches to try and stretch them out they well not work and you well be out of one of the expensive patches. So when in dought check with your doctor or Pharmacist before you alter any medication patch. THANKS, BIG TIME CHELSEY. chuck1957
Another tip I learned from this site : Spray Flonase on the site you will apply the patch. Wait until
thoroughly dry, Put on patch, and Presto! No rash or itching. I was ready to switch just because
of the rash and itch and bleeding. Works like a topical steroid. My Doc thought it was a great
idea. I wish I could remember who posted it, but I can't.
My only complaint on the patch is sometimes day 7 is a miserable day due to the patch quits working, All in all, I am really really happy with Butrans
