I have been on gel patches for over 10 years. Recalls, production problems and some companies have discontinued the gel patch I've been told. Dealing with daily chronic pain and my pharmacy is having problems getting me my gel patch. The other patches I got made me violently ill and can not use them. Last pharmacy said they have 1 box of Alvogen but doesn't know if it's a gel patch. Anyone know for sure what type of patch Alvogen is? Appreciate help,
I just looked here on Drugs.com at questions already answered about the Alvogen Fentanyl patch and question was answered on February 8th of 2018. A person asked were Alvogen Fentanyl patches gel patches and someone answered that they indeed are gel patches and are getting hard to find. You can search this site and find the answer if you would like, but I believe the commenter who said they are. God Bless you and go get those patches before they are gone. Take care.
I’m assuming you’re referring to the GEL RESERVOIR verses a MATRIX STYLE fentanyl patch. Unfortunately, the Alvogen is the MATRIX STYLE. I recently switched to this brand and it is working extremely well for me. I have also been on the Gel Reservoir type, but I can say that this works nearly as well. The only available manufacturers of the GEL RESERVOIR are the brand-name Janssen Duragesic Fentanyl Patch, the Mayne Pharmaceuticals Fentanly Patch, and the Actavis (previously Watson) Fentanly Patch. My insurance won’t cover the brand-named Duragesic Patch, but if yours will that would be an option. The Actavis has still not been re-released since the recall, and there is no date in sight. I don’t think the Mayne Pharmaceuticals patch is available either, but you could try calling them 1-844-825-8500. I don’t know which pharmacies carry this brand. Good luck to you.
Alvogen is the matrix delivery system. It is not the gel.

ALVOGEN 50 mcg patches are by far the worst generic patch that I have ever had. I change my patch every 48 hours as directed by my treating physician. When my new patch is due I make sure to change it at the same time of the day which is 10:00 am. My first experience with Alvogen was horrific... I woke up at around 3:30 am on the day that it was due to be changed. I had body aches, watery eyes, runny nose , body chills that came in continuous waves and were very intense. Thankfully I was able to fall back to sleep. I woke up about 2 hours later with the same symptoms but intensified. At 7:45am I woke up with the same symptoms but now unbearable. I was shaking, tired but restless, nauseous, I could feel every hair on my arm standing straight up.
Every inch of my skin was tender to the touch (as if my entire body was brushed), tachycardia (irregular heart beat), restless legs and feet, headache with Vertigo, dry mouth, etc.
I have never felt anything like this. To say that I felt awful is an understatement... I quickly reached into my purse and took one of my
15 mg Roxicodone that I have for breakthrough pain. Once the roxicodone kicked in I immediately changed the Alvogen patch and replaced it with an old expired Mylan patch that I had, the Mylan Fentanyl patch had been expired for 1.5 years. I started to feel better towards the afternoon and by the next day I was completely fine.
In my opinion Alvogen should not be manufacturing Fentanyl patches. Their Fentanyl patches, for me, had unsatisfactory pain relief at best and ended with horrible symptoms of withdrawal and inhumane results.
