I went to the doc and was diagnosed with shingles. He gave me a vaccine Valtrex and the steroid Prednisone but I'm thinking now that i need a topical antibiotic for the sores. With these sores already burning i don't need anything that would burn or sting. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Hello. I was writing a response and it disappeared. So if you get another that is fine.
My doctor did not like the idea of adding an antibiotic to the shingles I have been dealing with. They rarely become infected, though they look nasty, unless you scratch them. Then maybe spot treat. Talk to the doctor first.
Do ask the doctor for Lidoderm patches. These are placed on the shingles and numb the area greatly reducing the sting, pain and itching. They are wonderful. Aside from that, bathe regular, don't scratch, treat with the patch.
I also received the antiviral and pain medication. Do not hesitate to go to the ER if the pain becomes too intense. I did and they were able to help effectively.
Things to remember is they are highly contagious so stay away from children and people who have not had the shingles vaccine until everything has healed over. Encourage those around you to get their shots so they don't have to go through this.
If you have any more questions, lease ask. It does get better, really.
