I sustained a right middle cerebral artery stroke secondary to internal carotid disection 2 years ago and I am left with left hemiparesis complicated with grade 3 spasticity in my left arm and leg.Baclofen to up to 60 mg. per day did no good. Now Dantrium 25 mg. per day was recommmended by my physaiatrist. My question is what are my chances of responding to this new medication?.Also should I continue the Baclofen?.Please let me know.
Sorry this question was not answered earlier.
Dantrolene (Dantrium) is a muscle relaxant. It works by directly affecting the ability of your muscles to contract (stiffen).
It is impossible to predict if Dantrium will help your symptoms, and if so how quickly it will work. Dosage is usually increased weekly until improvement in symptoms is noticed. If there is no improvement after 6 to 7 weeks Dantrium is stopped.
Check with your doctor about continuing the Baclofen.
