Your dose and how long you've taken it would help thousands worred about addiction. Some in the forum say they were given 4mg a day by the doctor. That's eight times what I try to survive anxiety on. More details please.
Ive been taking Xanax for over 4yrs, I take it daily but try as best I can to use it as needed. I am diagnosed with with a fairly severe social anxiety disorder, Ive been precribed as much as 6mgs per day but currently take 1-3mgs daily depending on symptoms, but always atleast 1mg. Just recently I just started taking Buspar as well, which has helped my anxiety, and Im about to switch to Paxil from Prozac since Paxil has more anxiety benefits to offer. Now Im an opiate addict, currently on Suboxone for the second time, but for what ever reason I do not abuse any benzo's purely because I dont get any euphoric feeling if I take more, only tiredness and the main reason I like opiates was for the energy they provided me.
To anyone who would question the combo of sub and xanax or other benzo's, I agree that there can be an issue with someone who would get on sub and start taking a benzo when they arent tolerant to the effects of benzo's. Im new to this forum, I used to be very active on some other forums but any questions would be welcomed and I will always try to provide my best advice/opinion but never a definitive medical answer, which should always be left to your prescribing doctor, or medical professional for those out there that are taking any medicine without a prescription to do so.
I have been taking xanax since 1994 given to me a .5mg to help me get into a REM sleep cycle. It soon became apparent it was the only thing that let me sleep at all. After all these years, I now take 3mg at bedtime only to sleep. Without it I would be up forever. Altho' I suffer chrontic pain & believe it or not it helps with that too, but I refuse to take more than I am at now. I do not have anxiety for the most part. ...
I will be honest, if you take benzodiazapines long enough you WILL be physically dependant, i started 10 years ago twice daily 5mg diazepam (valium) and 30 mg. temazepam (restoril) a night. the emotional flood of anxiety i feel today at 5 mg. alprazolam (xanax) throughout the day and temazepam at night is hard to manage. i cannot describe the effects well enough, but i'll say this, this is what it's like to quit, imagine being trapped in a pill box. emotionaly in chains. body gets sick when you need the next dose. no sleep, jumpy and on the edge, feeling cold and outside one's self. it's not worth the pain, serious.
