I'm on disability and have little money. I have not seen a dentist in over 10/yrs due to TERROR and finanial situation. I have what looks like stage 4 gum disease and I know my teeth need to be fixed. I cannot even get up enough nerve to make an appointment. I wake-up with panic attacks just thinking about it. Can I take Valium prior to going for my initial consultation and will this help me to relax and talk with the dentist? If so what dosage should I ask my Dr to prescribe. I'm so nervous that I cannot even talk about it face-to-face with my family doctor. I'm even shaking typing this question.
What really gets me is, I haven't seen any dental ins. that pays more than 50% of a procedure. If you are on diability it is hard (imposible in my case) to get half the price of dentures or much less implants.
The part that blows my mind, is medical professionals know bad teeth can cause a brain or heart valve infection. It is common knowledge, but is ignored. Isn't it enough I have 2 back surgeries that did not work. I have chronic pain, the meds (methadone) have rotted out almost all my teeth. I have a mitral valve prolapse, so I am more at risk for infection. If you go to an er, it is a temporary fix. They just ignore facts.
