How do the pain killers, Oxycodone(Percocet) and Hydrocodone(Norco) differ? I am allergic to Codiene, and trying to find out if I would be able to take one of these. So I can talk to my MD. Thank-You.
Basically there are two types of narcotics. First are the Opiates which include the following drugs: morphine, codeine and thebaine. The second type of narcotics are the Opioids (which have two subcategories) which include the following: Semi-synthetic opioids which are hydromorphone, hydrocodone, oxycodone and oxymorphone. The last subcategory are the Fully synthetic opioids such as fentanyl, pethidine, methadone, tramadol and dextropropoxyphene.
So you're probably allergic to Opiates. You may not be allergic to the Opioids which include Oxycodone and Hydromorphone. Talk to your doctor about it. Good Luck! I hope this helped!
