My sister died in 2007. She left a golden retriever, of which Mom and Dad took ownership. I'm hyper-allergic to dog dander, which is all over their house. They knew I was allergic (took me to allergists my entire childhood, kept me away from others’ pets), but they dismissed all that when my sister died, and they had to have her dog. Mom died 2 weeks ago. Dad still has the dog. Dad's 80, in poor health and alone, since Mom's gone. He won't give up the dog. Worse, he has old carpeting and he and mom hoarded my sister's dust-collecting items (e.g. stuffed animals) all over their house. He can’t drive to my house, which is 1 hour away, so if I want to see him, I have to go to his house. Zyrtec, Claritin, and Allegra don't work for me. Only OTC meds, such as Actifed and Tavist, and not very well for dog dander, plus they make me tired and constipated. It’s very hard for me to be with him in his house without being “doped up”. He keeps trying to pull the dog away from me, but it doesn’t matter, since the dander is airborne and everywhere. What to do?
