Alcohol delays the effectiveness of medication but is it safe to drink while taking azithromicin?

It doesn't delay the effectiveness of the medication, it reduces it's effect. That creates potential for continued infection, another doctors visit and another script.

It's only a week you can't drink (while you take your antibiotics). If you can't wait a week you may have an alcohol issue.
