... MTHFR gene mutation, and I think this will be a good combination to take... starting off on 7.5 this week and then raising it to the full 15mg per day. :) Does anyone know why it's so bad to have alcohol with Deplin? I don't drink often at all but sometimes I like to have some wine or a cocktail, but I'm wondering now that I'm on these 2 meds. I should even risk it. Does anyone know if even one or two drinks on ocassion is really that bad? :-/
I checked your medications and this is what came up:
Interactions between your selected drugs
ethanol ↔ citalopram
Applies to: Alcohol (contained in alcoholic beverages) (ethanol), Celexa (citalopram)
GENERALLY AVOID: Alcohol may potentiate some of the pharmacologic effects of CNS-active agents. Use in combination may result in additive central nervous system depression and impairment of judgment, thinking, and psychomotor skills.
MANAGEMENT: Patients receiving CNS-active agents should be warned of this interaction and advised to avoid or limit consumption of alcohol. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring complete mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.
No other interactions were found between your selected drugs.
Note: this does not necessarily mean no interactions exist. ALWAYS consult with your doctor or pharmacist.
I don't think an occassional drink with alcohol will cause any problems. If you have a tendency to overdo, then I would recommend not drinking, but if we are talking one or two drinks once in a while, then you should be just fine.
