For most of my adult life, I've been getting yeast infections anywhere from two to three times a year. I am negative for HIV. What could be an underlining cause for this?
Hello. I used to get a lot of those too. There are some things you can do. First, reduce sweets in your diet. Second, be checked for diabetes. Third, when you wipe yourself always wipe from front to back. Fourth, take baths frequently so your bottom soaks. Fifth, be sure that you have seen a doc for this and don't just self treat. There are other things that seem like yeast but are not. And, finally, if using over the counter treatments like monistat, be sure to use it as long as they say even though the symptoms may disappear on the outside. Yes, it is messy. Be sure to use at night.
One other hint to know. If you are having frequent sex or different partners it will show up more frequently. My guess is when young it was hygiene and if you are adult it may be many other things. Get a good checkup from the doc. Ok? There are some nasty STDs out there.
I'm the same exact way! My mother is this way too, and my one girl cousin that I have-same way! All my life I remember her on some kind of medicine with applicators in her cabinets in the bathroom. I think it has to do with vaginal pH myself. I have yeast all the time and it gets worse right before my period-thats why I think it has to do with pH. I was told by a midwife one time that I had one of the worst yeast infections she had ever seen and this was in a county free clinic! Yuck-huh? She told me that I probably had it all through my whole digestive tract and all. She suggested a treatment I still use to this day. I never use Monistat or any of that crap! I do get Diflucan sometimes but you can also use my treatment along with Diflucan. Diflucan will kill it for a month or two then it is back. I use boric acid capsules. It works much better than Monistat. I get powdered boric acid at the drug store or Walmart.
They have it in bottles in the health area where they sell OTC meds. Then you go to the health food store and get a package of unfilled gelatin capsules. You want to fill 3 capsules for each treatment course. (be sure you keep these capsules in a labelled bag or container-they are DEADLY poisonous if swallowed!!) You insert one capsule into the vagina for three nights in a row. This will kill all organisms in there-good and bad so on the 4th night, you need to fill a clean applicator with about a teaspoon of plain, unflavored yougurt. This is to put the good bacterias back into the vagina which helps to keep bad ones in check. During the treatment (and really all the time is good), you need to be either eating yogurt or better yet, take a probiotic like Culturelle to help take care of the yeast in the gut. It also helps to avoid white flour and white sugar (I, unfortunately, do not do this so it is probably why mine never goes completely away) This boric acid treatment works better than anything I've ever used and it is cheap!!! It is only a couple dollars for the boric acid and a couple dollars for the capsules and the capsules last forever as long as they dont get moisture in them. The bottle of boric acid will make hundreds of capsules! Just be sure to throw it out after the expiration date. You might want to wear a panty liner or thin menstrual pad while doing this treatment because you will have a lot of discharge as all of this stuff drains out. It is good to have any regular sex partners treated as well with either an antifungal cream or Diflucan. If you are married or have one monogamous partner, it is likely that he carries the infection even if he isnt symptomatic. My husband sometimes gets an itchy, fine rash on the head of his penis. He is usually the one who tells me I have a raging infection! I have had them so much that I dont feel them anymore-no itching or burning unless it gets really bad! I do this treatment as often as I need to. Definitely after antibiotics, along with diflucan too, after antibiotics!! I start getting the infection as soon as they hand me the script!! I have difficulty getting a good PAP smear because I'm so frequently carrying Candida. Both my kids had Thrush as babes! It is a pain in the rear, I know! I and my cousin have both been checked for diabetes and HIV and are negative for both. For some reason all the females in my family suffer from this malady. The previous poster has a lot of good points in her post so definitely follow her advice too but I just wanted to post my story too. you are not alone!
If you have gone to the doctor to rule out all other possible infections, including sexually and non-sexually transmitted diseases, and you are sure you are in need for a yeast infection cure, you can purchase Acidophilus over-the-counter, which is an ingredient in some yogurts. This will cure your problem just as well as a anti-fungal prescription pill, such as Diflucan. If you get this prescription ask for more than one to be written at a time for the entire month so that your insurance covers the pill.
