I have been taking 12.5 mg of ambien and am stopping because I am afraid of long term effects. Dr. gave me 50mg of seroquel. I do not think that will work due to the amount of ambien I was taking. I was also taking 200mg trazadone. Should I taper off the ambien or just start taking the seroquel. My doctor did not know what to tell me???
No, not unless the Dr is ordering the taper and guiding you through it. You're taking medications that work differently for everyone, and which take weeks, 3-4 weeks before they really show what affect they're having on you.
Didn't know what to tell you sounds very concerning, there's either some history there or you should get some referrals and start fresh. They don;t send all that time and money to become Doctors just to make comments like that, although I'm not surprised by it either. How long have you been seeing this Dr?.
Somethings not adding up. More to the story maybe?
Definitely taper the ambien. The use of low doses of seroquel for insomnia, while common, is not recommended; there is little evidence of benefit and concerns regarding adverse effects and after using it for awhile it doesn't sedate much. In my opinion unless you are bipolar or have some other mental issues an antipsychotic is not a good medication for insomnia. Are you still taking trazodone?
Hmmm. . . I am trying to wean myself off too. My original dosage was 10-20 mg everynight as needed this has been for the past 6 years. I was taking 20mg for several years. Then I tapered down to 10 mg. I am now going to the 5 mg. My new dr. gave me a rx for Remeron - I had very vivid dreams some nightmarish. Discontinued that and am back on Ambien and hope to discontinue within the next year. Good Luck to us!
