I was diagnosed after 2 surgeries this past year. I am 53 and have been completely healthy until my first colonoscopy went horribly wrong and they perforated my bowel. Ironically it was on this day last year. Then in May I had to have 2 large hernias repaired. I have spent 8 months of this past year recovering from 3 major open surgeries and it has completely changed my day to day life. As soon as I was off the pain medication it went from tolerable to unbearable! The Gabapentin isn't working and I feel quite hopeless at this point. Trying to find a knowledgeable pain management doctor in my area has been a nightmare. I am hoping UCSF can help me soon. I can't imagine living my life this way much longer!
