I was just diagnosed and this is what my doctor is recommending.
I highly recommend Cimzia for RA. I was diagnosed 3 years ago and my first rheumatologist was very conservative with medication-he didn't want to start me on shots even though I was in crippling pain and barely functioning. He said the pain was mostly in my head because I was always so emotional when I saw him. I told him of course I'm emotional, I'm only 35 with two young children, a fulltime job, and a doctor unwilling to help relieve me of my pain. He only prescribed prednisone and methotrexate which basically just turned me into a very cranky, fat, pain ridled person. Lucky for me my brother in law is an Enbrel salesman so he knows all the rheumatologists in the area and recomended a different doctor. What a relief it was to meet with her-she really listened to me and what was going on with my body and put me on Enbrel to start. As it turns out I am allergic to it so we then tried Cimzia and let me tell you it was the best thing for me. I never felt so good as when I was on those shots. I was prescribed 2 shots once a month along with the methotrexate and folic acid. I will not lie and say you'll feel or act like those people in the commercials but I know it helped me a great deal. My morning stiffness was greatly reduced and my overall energy improved also. It took a few months for the full effect of the shots to be felt but it was worth it. I wish you luck and hope this helps.
