I'm 65 yr old female. I'm taking Advair 500/50 + Spiriva and diagnosed with COPD & asthma. I'm still having problems breathing.
Ask your doctor about using theopollyine. It's pill form & works wonderfully for breathing. A lot of the docs think this is old fashioned , but it works! I am allergic to milk proteins & it is my only recourse. They do have to keep check on you blood levels tho', is the only drawback (altho my doc did not do this). I find it very helpful & when I was younger, I was on it fulltime not just seasonally. I will give you a link to read about it... Mary
Advair is used to reduce inflammation. It delivers a steroid to the lungs to reduce swelling in the bronchial tubes. I have used when I have had bouts of pneumonia, at that strength. I do not have COPD but do have interstitial lung disease. ( scarred lungs). My doc has tried various meds and various combinations. am now permanently on oxygen and lung capacity is in low 40's.
I agree that you should talk with the doc and check out all your options. Be sure you get a well respected Pulmonologist. I have a great one and it makes all the difference in the world.
I am 64 years-old and on the Advair 500. I find that it works better when the air is warmer. It seems to have little effect when the temp outside is in the 30's and below. I take it 2x a day and somedays are better than others. Believe it or not, if I wear flat shoes rather than heels or wedges, my breathing is better. Go figure. I wish you luck with it and feel exactly what you do. I many times think it is doing me no good at all and do not take it and my breathing does get worse. xxoo
Do you use anything else beside Advair? I find Combivent or a nebulizer with ipatroprium bromide and albuterol every four hours to be most effective. Have tried Advair in combination with the above, but saw no improvement so switched back to combivent/nebulizer. The long acting meds do not seem to be as effective as the short acting ones. Has anyone else noticed this?
