I was taking Advair 250 before but my doctor prescribed me Advair 500 recently. Since I still have 2 discus of the 250, I might as well use it. I usually take one puff twice daily. So can I take two puffs twice daily of the 250 to be equal with 500?
Advair 250 discus and Advair 500 discus are both combo medications. One component is a long-acting broncho-dilator (Salmeterol) while the other is an inhaled corticosteroid (Fluticasone).
Advair 500 discus contains 500 mcg of the corticosteroid and 50 mcg of the broncho-dilator. Taking two puffs of the Advair 250 discus in order to replace the Advair 500 discus, you will be taking twice the amount of the broncho-dilator.
Based on your diagnosis, age and other medication, please consult your pharmacist and doctor.
